Spirit of Marie

Hello, and welcome to my true ghost stories. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. I'm now so far enjoying a happy new year. It's very cold in New York City today, so if you hear some ambient clicking sounds in the background, that is my heat that thank God is on. And today I'm going to tell you a story about a brief but very meaningful ghostly encounter that I had out on the sidewalk near the bus stop by my house.
This is a spirit that I knew and I knew well. And this was the grandma of one of my daughter's friends. And when you're hanging out in the playground as a stay-at-home mom, you meet a lot of people on the playground. You meet nannies, you meet dads, you don't just only meet other stay-at-home moms. You meet these other people who take care of children.
And this woman that I'm going to talk about today was the grandmother of my middle daughters. I wouldn't say best friend, they always have best friends at that age, but a very good friend. And they happen to live right around the corner from us. And I was friends with more than one grandma in my stay-at-home mom playground days. So I'm going to tell you her real name, her name was Marie.
And I don't know why I always change the names, but today I just feel like I really need to honor her and I'm going to say her name, which was Marie. And we started out by just hanging out on the playground together while our kids played, well while my kid played and her grand kid played. And we've discovered from these playground chats that we had a lot in common. We had a lot of good things in common and a lot of bad things in common, bad things that had happened to us. So we really, really became friends.
Not just acquaintances who run into each other on the playground, we became actual friends who even talked on the phone and had coffee together sometimes with no kids around. Logistically, it was very easy to be friends with Marie because her grandchild's family lived right around the corner from me. And she, Marie, lived even closer to me and in an apartment on the block between the two houses, my house and her grandchild's house. And she lived right in front of the bus stop. So I could end a coffee date with her and just go down and catch the bus if I needed to.
So we shared a lot of good times. I would say we helped each other out, but for the most part she just helped me out because I was a single mom of three at the time and she was a retired grandmother. So she did some things like walk my kids to school and even watch my baby occasionally while I ran to the grocery store. So I was very, very grateful for her as a friend and as a helpful neighbor. Marie lived in a second floor walk up in this apartment that was right around the corner from my house and from her grandchild's house.
So it was a second floor walk up and because Marie had limited mobility in her legs, she knew the exact amount of steps that she had to take to get up and down and would only be able to come up and down for a set amount of times a day. So she would factor that in when she was going to do me a favor for the most part I would go up to her apartment for coffee and sometimes she would have a spare trip up or down the stairs to go meet in a coffee shop somewhere. For the most part she stayed inside her apartment except for the set amount of times that she could come downstairs. So eventually because Marie had limited mobility in her legs and she was 87 years old, it's started to become obvious that she was going to have to find a different living situation. The other thing that happened during this time is that housing prices in this area of New York went through the roof and her family decided to cash in on that and sell their house and moved to California.
So they were moving to California and she couldn't go up and down the stairs anymore and so Marie decided to move with them which made me very, very sad because I was going to miss her. So she moved and we had a goodbye coffee and then about three months later I got an email from her saying that she was coming back to visit. She had so many friends in New York City that she was coming back to visit and she came and she stayed in this hotel and just took cabs all day to visit her friends. She was so awesome. And for a few years she came back to New York City like every couple of months, maybe every three or four months to visit all her friends and see a show and stuff like that.
So I got really used to having a lunch date with her every couple of months. But eventually the visit slowed to once or maybe twice a year and then they stopped. For a while I received regular birthday cards from her because she was that kind of person, beautifully handwritten birthday cards with a long message about how much she likes me and good things about me and then some details about her life written on the inside of the card which was amazing. And then the cards turned to emails and so we emailed for a while and it was during the pandemic that the emails stopped. As you all know the pandemic was extremely distracting, stressful time and I didn't count the months that it had been since I'd heard from Marie like I used to.
It went out of my mind because of all the horrible things that were in my mind during the pandemic. So I looked up her emails and the last one was in June of 2020 and after that is when they stopped. I saw that I had sent her an email, this is after I looked it all up, I saw that I had sent her an email, a response and I had never heard back from her. And it was about a year later that there was an email in my inbox from a person that I didn't recognize and it said our mother Marie and I thought oh this isn't going to be good. I opened up the email and it was not from her daughter who was the person who used to live around the corner for me, the mother of my middle daughter's good friend.
It was not from her, it was from Marie's son. And it said, we are sad to tell you that our mother Marie passed away this past year and we are telling you this because we found correspondence from you in her email and it was so sad and I felt really bad that I had lost touch with her. I responded to her son's email and I told him all the wonderful things. I told him about all the good advice that Marie had given me. I told him about how she had taught my daughter to sew and now my daughter sewed all the time and I told him about all our lunch dates and where we used to go.
And it was a good email and full of detail in love and I hope that he received it. I imagine he did. I did not hear back from the son but that's okay. I needed him to know how much Marie had meant to me. And I hope he got some joy out of knowing what an impact she had made on my life.
So her apartment after she left it remained empty. It remained empty for the whole time which was quite a few years after she left. It remained empty and then the apartment below it emptied out and that remained empty and eventually a big four-sale sign went up on the whole building that her apartment was in. And I walked by it every day. I walked by it every day because I take the bus and the bus stop is right in front of her old apartment and so every time I would go by there I would think about Marie and I would note the progress of whatever sale was going on which was no progress at all.
But finally just a few months ago over the big four-sale sign was slapped a sticker that said sold. So nothing has happened yet with that building but it says that it has been sold which is a good thing because you don't want empty buildings in your neighborhood so I'm glad that it was sold. I'm glad that people will move in there again. So that sold sign has been up for a little bit and just this past weekend I got off the bus and I'm walking past Marie's apartment and I got that vibration in my chest. I got that vibration in my chest that means there was a spirit nearby and I saw a little motion out of the corner of my eye and something told me that it was someone I know.
Something told me that it was not a stranger. I knew my listeners can probably guess who the spirit was so I stopped. I stopped walking and I turned around and I faced the door of Marie's old apartment building and that was the door that I used to go in and walk up all the steps. I have coffee with Marie and that was the door that I used to stand at occasionally and wait for her to come down so that we could go get coffee. The vibration was very strong in my chest as I stood there looking at this door and then I could tell.
I could feel it. I could see it in my mind's eye standing by the door was Marie. A Marie looked great and she was standing there in one of her perfect outfits and all that was happening was she was standing there looking at me and she was waving goodbye. I don't know how I could tell it was a goodbye wave and not a hello wave but I could just tell that this was a wave goodbye from Marie and it was a few years after she passed away and since most spirits that I deal with ascend within the first few days unless they're trapped it seems that Marie remained lingering on this earth for just a few years after she passed away. I hope that she was not trapped but now as I stood there looking at her I could tell that she was getting ready to ascend and she wanted to say goodbye to me and she was waving.
I also started to see oh she's about to ascend right now so let me help her. I think her angels were already next to her because I didn't have to call anybody in and I just stood there with the vibration in my chest. I waved back to Marie. I thanked her for her friendship and then she ascended. I said a little prayer.
I walked over to the spot where she had ascended and I just sealed up the portal because that's what you're supposed to do when somebody ascends. I sealed up the portal. I said goodbye again facing the door. I turned around and I continued the walk home around the corner to my house. So rest in peace Marie.
