An old house, a blind dog, and a strange presence. What dissatisfied spirit is lurking in the living room? Welcome to Episode 39 of My True Ghost Stories. A friend of mine who I am going to call Joyce was working many years ago as a dog walker, and the range of this dog walking business she was working for was all over the borough. So she was having to drive all over town to these random addresses in all different neighborhoods to walk these dogs.
In one night, she and I were hanging out, and she said that she had to head out to take the train to walk a dog. She was going to take the train because she had a good parking spot for tomorrow. Or she said, you could come with me, we could take your car. No parking is much better in my neighborhood, and alternate side of the street parking was not in effect for me the next day, so me moving my car was not such a big deal that night. Okay, I agreed, and we headed outside to my car and drove to this address.
The house was a beautiful brownstone in a beautiful neighborhood with terrible parking, but low and behold, miracle of miracles, there was a spot right across the street. So I was going to get to go in with her and see the inside of this beautiful brownstone. We got out of the car, crossed the street, and we walked up the fancy steps to the front door while Joyce fumbled with the keys. The porch light was on, the foyer light was on inside the house, and Joyce finally got the key in the lock and swung the door open. So I, at that time, many years ago, was new to this whole medium business, and I had not yet put up boundaries around energy from trapped spirits.
So when she opened that door, I had to take a step back from the wave of supernatural energy that flew out the door. I also had not at that time learned how to decipher if it was a benign energy or a negative one. So standing there on that porch that night, I knew I was going to have to deal with something supernatural if I went in there. Now I don't remember exactly what happened next, but I was talking to Joyce recently and she told me that that night at the brownstone that she remembers opening the door and that I groaned and stepped back. And she remembers that I said, I'm not going in there.
And I don't remember why I changed my mind because I know I did go in there because the rest of this story is what happened inside that house. I must have meditated a moment on the energy and decided that it was safe to go in. I much braver these days. I can totally handle the angry spirits. I also think that that night I was being called to service by my guides because someone in there needed help, the kind of help that I, as a spiritual medium, know how to give.
So I entered the house, I think, at the same time as Joyce, who probably waited with me on the porch for me to come around. And I remember that when we walked in, there was no dog at first. Apparently this particular dog walking job was for an old, old dog who was deaf, mostly blind and didn't walk very well. So Joyce had to first find him and then pick him up and carry him down the back steps out to the backyard. So it wasn't really dog walking that she was doing that night.
It was dog finding and carrying. While Joyce went to walk around the first floor and find the dog, I settled in, felt the energy and I realized it was fine in there. There was definitely something there or someone, but whoever it was was friendly and the powers that be needed me to help this friendly presence somehow. That I could tell just by standing there. I wandered into the living room in this truly, truly beautiful home.
There was a couch and a chase lounge in there and Joyce had turned the lamp on while she was looking for the dog. I chose to sit on the chase lounge and I sat down, waiting for something to happen. It was quiet for a while. At first I was sitting upright, watching and waiting. But after a few minutes, I decided to take off my coat and just sit back.
I think I was being guided to present a more relaxed chill presence for the benefit of whoever I was there to help. So who was it? Who is in here for me to help? Joyce had finally found the dog he had been sleeping in one of the other rooms on that floor. Okay, I'm carrying him to the backyard now.
She said, walking through the hallway past the living room, carrying this grey-haired, medium-sized dog in her arms. Okay, I said and Joyce knew that I was up to something supernatural and she was used to that. She paused there in the doorway, looked at me for a second, sitting there on the chase lounge, and she headed for the backyard with the dog. Once I heard the back door open and shut, I felt the energy shift in the living room, and I knew that some communication from the other side or from an earth-bound spirit was going to happen soon. I was right.
As I sat there in that living room, looking around, the spirit of a young boy turned the corner from the hallway. He leaned his arm against the couch opposite for me. He looked at me and said, hello, this boy was wearing clothes from the turn of the century. He was wearing knickers, a newsboy cap, and he looked to be about eight years old. He had an air of confidence, no fear or distress.
He knew I could see him and he was looking straight at me, still leaning on the arm of the couch. Hello, I responded. He started gesturing around the room. It's kind of boring around here, he said, I don't have anybody to play with. I listened, I was nodding and agreeing, I didn't want to scare him off, and I also didn't want to be boring either and have him go away without me getting the chance to help him.
So I tried to stay engaged with him while, at the same time, listening for a message from my guides as to what I was supposed to say to this young man. I kept looking at him, keeping the energy going between us, and I simultaneously listened for a message. Despite Michael, my guide in spirit communications, he chimed in, and Michael said, this little boy needs to cross over. He's saying he's bored, so tell him that he can have fun on the other side. The spirit of the little boy was still gesturing around the room, looking at me, still pretty confident and unafraid, and he was just complaining about how boring it was there.
And I bet it was. No kids lived in this house, just two adults and a deaf partially blind dog who slept all day. That could not have been any fun for the spirit of a young boy. Most brown stones in the city were built in the 1840s to 1850s, and the way this boy was dressed, he looked like he was from the early 1900s. So if he had been lingering in this house this whole time, I'm sure he saw many families come and go, hopefully some, with kids.
But this particular family, the couple with the old dog that was here now, had nothing to entertain a child. And I believe the powers that be, the angels and the guides who direct this kind of transition, they knew that they had an opportunity to possibly convince this child to try something new. This spirit had obviously missed his opportunity to cross over and he had lingered around. And judging from the demeanor he was showing me, he wasn't confused or upset, like many earthbound spirits are. He was just bored.
As I said, St. Michael had told me to tell this young spirit that he could have fun on the other side. And as I've described in other episodes of this podcast, the spirits or ghosts can only see in here me, not the guides in these situations. I guess the powers that be you were going to take advantage of the fact that this child was bored and might actually be persuaded by me to cross over. Spirit's crossing over seems to be important in the grand scheme of things and I don't know exactly why, but I imagine that departed spirits are better off on the other side where they can get help and learn.
Of that, I am pretty sure. I proceeded with the assignment from St. Michael, all of getting the boy to cross over and the time was ripe and all the right circumstances were lined up. The young spirit was in front of me. Joyce was still in the backyard with the dog.
The young spirit was complaining that he was bored. St. Michael had told me what to tell him, so I did. The spirit was still complaining, a look of mild frustration on his face. And I interrupted him.
You know, I said, you could have a lot more fun on the other side. He looked at me. Now he looked skeptical and he seemed to know exactly what the other side was. I don't want to go there, he said. It's all old people there.
And the other side being filled with old people probably sounded even worse to him than hanging out in this house with no kids and a sleeping dog. So this little boy had refrained from crossing over whenever he had had the opportunity because he felt that the other side was full of old people. People he couldn't play with. Michael spoke up immediately. No, tell him there's kids there.
So I obliged. No, there's lots of kids to play with there. You will have lots of friends. And this spirit's look of skepticism slowly turned to one of interest. Really, he asked?
Yes, really, said Michael. Yes, really, I repeat it. The boy seemed to be considering it. He looked around the room one last time and said, okay, I'll do it. I have done so many spirit crossings in my life that I don't remember exactly how many of them go.
The conversation with this spirit and Michael beforehand was so memorable that I have been able to tell you that story today. However, since I don't remember the details of the crossing of this boy, it must have been very standard, which is a good thing. No complications. And I'm sure there were many children there for him to play with when he reached the other side. Spirits of other children who have died and the spirits of people who become children when they cross over.
Some say that in heaven, if you believe in it, you can exist there at an age where you were happiest on this earth. And I don't know if that's true, but I'd like to think that it is and that when this little boy crossed over, he was met with a crowd of happy children. And I do believe that this whole encounter was arranged by the guides of this spirit. Me and Joyce hanging out that night, Joyce needing a ride, me having my car, the parking spot right across the street so I could go in and meet the little boy spirit, all of it. And Joyce finally returned from the backyard carrying the dog back to his bed.
She paused in the hallway and looked at me with a question in her eyes and she said, what did you do? I'll tell you in the car, I said. Joyce contacted the owners of the house a few days later and she told them about my visit to their home and my experience with the little boy. The owners knew a little about the history of their house and they told Joyce that a child had indeed died in that house around the turn of the century and they were so glad that he was finally having fun on the other side.
