I Get a Message for a Stranger

I was asked by a most high representative of the universe to deliver a three-word message to someone. But who was it? And what did this message mean? Welcome to Episode 38 of My True Ghost Stories. I was running errands around town, alone in my big green minivan, no kids with me, and I started to sense a presence.
One of those presences. I knew a message from the other side was coming, but this one was different. It was a message not from just the other side, but it was a message from what I can only call from beyond. And I'm going to be intentionally vague on this one particular detail right here. Who this message came from.
But the spirit contacting me that day, I will say, was from a much, much higher place than from where I'm used to getting messages. And this presence was strangely sitting in the passenger seat of my van. You'd think with a spirit from a very, very high place, again, intentionally vague, you'd think that the message would be, you know, ethereal, mysterious, holy, accompanied by harps. And you'd think that I would have to like get out of the car and kneel before a beautiful sunset or something. But the presence was just riding along with me and my van on the way home from the supermarket.
And the message was really specific. It was just an action to be taken. The message went like this. Jennifer, go to the five o'clock service at church. And I had already been to church that morning.
And the message went on. They said, you will see someone there at the five o'clock service to whom you have to deliver a message. You will know when you see them and the message that you are going to say to that person is, take the gig. Take the gig. I had many questions.
What does that mean? And you're saying I will know who the person is? Will the person know what take the gig means? But after this task had been described to me by this spirit in my van, the presence was gone immediately. And none of my questions were answered.
But the message had been clear. Go to the five o'clock service. Find the person and deliver this message. Take the gig. Now this presence had been huge.
The effect of this particular encounter has had a huge impact on my spiritual life. But today, in this story, I am focusing on that five o'clock service and this extremely clear message and how it all played out. So it was around 4.30 when I received this message from the presence in my car. And I had enough time to get home, drop my groceries off, throw the perishables in the fridge and head back out for the five o'clock service at my church. As I said, I had been there that morning.
But this message was crystal clear that I had to go at five as well. I arrived and luckily there were more parking spots at five than there usually were for the morning service, which is why I usually just walk to the morning service. But I didn't have enough time to walk today and I was very grateful that the universe gifted me with a parking spot right down the block. I walked down the street from my car to the main entrance. I usually use the side entrance when I entered church, but this mission, finding this person and delivering this message, it somehow seemed to call for something more formal.
So I entered at the back and I walked slowly and somewhat grandly down the center aisle. I was early thanks to the parking spot gift I had received from the parking gods. So I had time to slowly scan the pews as I walked down toward the front of the church, looking for the individual who I had been told I would recognize as the one who should receive the message. The strange message of take the gig. Now I never went to the five o'clock service.
I had never been there at that time before. And although it was the same church building that I always go to, I didn't recognize anyone. It was a whole different crowd. I did recognize a clergy member or two and one of the ushers, otherwise all strangers. And it seemed quieter.
There wasn't the usual sound of the choir practicing and the organ playing along. Those were the sounds I was used to hearing when I got to church early. And this was completely different. The people were different. There was no music.
And the light was coming in the windows at a late afternoon angle as supposed to the late morning angle I was used to. I don't really like change, but this was definitely going to be interesting. I consulted my guides and my intuition as to where to sit to undertake this task I had been assigned. As I walked down the center aisle, I passed pew after pew, briefly considering each one. And then getting the message that this was not where I was supposed to sit, that I would know it when I got there.
And I got there. It was up toward the front on the left hand side of the church. And I knew as soon as I approached it, sit here was the message. I sat down. I was near a pillar.
I was somewhat alone in this section, but there was a woman sitting a few pews ahead of me. And I knew immediately that she was not the person I was supposed to deliver the message to, just like I knew which pew's not to sit in. So I just sat there looking around and waiting for a sign, a message. The church was relatively quiet, and there were still about ten minutes before their service would start. I knew that something would eventually happen to let me know, because that's how these things go.
But what was going to happen? And when? So I just sat there looking around, listening, wondering. And then the woman who was sitting a few rows ahead of me suddenly started gathering up her things and quickly left the pew she was in. She sort of bolted out of there.
I briefly watched her move to another pew in another section on the other side of the church, and I don't know what had sent her over there. But what became obvious, what I realized was the sign I was waiting for, was that when she moved. I could now, in my line of sight, see a different woman, and this woman was standing up near the organ. Now I'm pretty sure that the woman who was sitting a few pews ahead of me who got up and bolted and went to the other side of the church, I believe she was being directed by a higher power who wanted me to see this woman standing by the organ. And she looked like she was waiting for someone, this woman standing by the organ.
And it was instantly clear, the take the gig message is for her. I looked at her, she wasn't leaving or anything, so I knew I could wait for the right time to deliver the message. And then I saw another woman headed down the side aisle toward her. And that woman was carrying a guitar case. And then the woman I was watching, the woman to whom I had to deliver a message, she waved at her guitar carrying friend, and then she turned around, reached down towards the floor and picked up a guitar.
Seeing that the intended recipient of the message was a musician, the take the gig message was a little less mysterious now. The two guitar players got up onto the small platform where the organ was and they stood next to the organ and they started setting up music stands and taking out sheet music. And as I said, I had never been to the five o'clock service before. So I was just learning now that the organist and the choir were only there for the morning service and that the music for the evening service was provided by these two women and their acoustic guitars. The church was filling up, I settled into my seat knowing that I had to wait until after the service to deliver the message about taking the gig, which meant I was going to have to attend a second service that day.
And I was grateful to see that a different clergy member than the one that was there that morning would be leading the service this evening. So at least the sermon would be different than the one that morning. And then the five o'clock service began. The lady started playing their guitars and singing in beautiful, folky, two-part harmony. And I realized that I was going to like the five o'clock service.
And if the readings were all going to be the same as I had heard in the morning. And I did like the service, not that I would ever make it a habit to attend church twice on one Sunday, but I truly enjoyed this service and how different it was from what I was used to. And as it wrapped up, I started to get nervous. Although I at least knew the person I was giving a message to was a musician and would know what a gig was. But was she being offered a gig?
Would this make any sense to her? The service came to a close. The musician and her partner played an extroverse of the recessional hymn as everyone filed down the center inside aisles, heading for the exits or gathering in small groups to chat. And the ladies with the guitars finished playing the final verse. They stopped.
They said a few words to each other, turned off the mics, and started to pack up. At one point, the second guitar player, the one who the message was not for, left her stuff and headed over to talk to someone on the other side of the church while her partner, the one to whom I had to deliver a message, continued packing up. I picked up my bag and I walked slowly over. I was really nervous. But it had all been very clear.
I knew what to say and who to say it to. Hi, I said as I got closer. Hi, she responded in a friendly voice, pausing her activity to smile at me. That was beautiful. You guys did great.
I told her, motioning to the guitars and the music stands. She thanked me and resumed putting the sheet music into a binder. And now it was time to do the thing that was making me all nervous, deliver the message. So I started with a long, um, um, and she paused again, looked at me. Um, I have a message for you from who she asked.
And the more ohms from me, um, from the universe. Oh, is this prophecy? She asked confidently. Now I'm going to be honest and tell you that at that time I did not really know exactly what the word prophecy meant. But I had a vague notion that it had to do with predicting the future.
And I was pretty sure it wasn't that because it was only these three words, not a description of any kind of event that would maybe happen in the future. So I answered, no, no, it's not prophecy. But I was just trying to pretend that I totally knew what that word meant. Um, no, it's just a message from the universe. Okay.
She said, still friendly. What's the message? So I said, the message is take the gig. She smiled a little smile. She narrowed her eyes and said, didn't Nicole send you?
Now I knew from being around this church a while that Nicole was someone who worked in the office. I did not really know her personally, but I did know that she was responsible for a lot of the staffing there. And I also knew that someone in a much, much higher position than Nicole had sent me. Once again, intentionally vague on this point. No, I said, Nicole didn't send me.
It's really just from the universe. And it turned out that this, this playing at the five o'clock service was the gig, the gig, the very high powers wanted her to take. This guitar player did not tell me much that evening, but she mentioned briefly that she traveled a long way to sing and play guitar at this evening service every week. And she had been considering giving it up. And I sort of figured out from a few other things that she said that the office, I guess Nicole, had attempted to like, sweeten the deal for her to get her to stay.
And I guess they were trying really hard because this musician actually thought that the church administration would go so far as to send someone to tell her that there was a message from beyond telling her to take the gig. She was pleased to hear that Nicole did not send me. And I'm not sure she 100% believed me, but she seemed satisfied with our conversation. She thanked me for the message and said she would consider taking the gig. And she let on that she had to make this decision very soon.
And I guess the powers that be wanted are actually needed for some reason that I'll never know for her to stay. It was probably six months later that I, for some scheduling reason, wound up switching it around and going to the five o'clock service instead of the morning service. And you guessed it, I got there a few minutes early and there she was. Our message receiving long traveling guitar player, tuning up and shuffling sheet music around. And I didn't go over there.
I didn't want to say, hey, remember me? The one with the message from the universe from six months ago? I didn't want to do that. So I sat down, I smiled to myself, I looked upward towards the heavens and I said, I guess she listened. She took the gig.
