Calls From Haunted Rooms

A haunted room, a confused ghost and a frightened daughter. How can I help from three states away? Welcome to episode 47 of My True Ghost Stories. I have three daughters and they were raised by a mom who is a medium. They would patiently wait in the car for instance while I talked to a ghost in the supermarket parking lot.
And for the most part as far as I can tell, they were not embarrassed about this. Almost everything else about me embarrassed them, especially once they hit 13, like when I would joke around with strangers and God forbid I should dance in public. They were okay with dancing in the house, but no, no, never in public. Especially not while shaperoning the middle school dance. Even if the cute DJ played my favorite song.
But oddly, they did not seem to have a problem with me talking to invisible people in parking lots and other public places. Possibly because it just involved me standing there and mumbling softly, not making any lords, gestures or anything that would attract attention. And for this, I'm grateful. I'm grateful that my daughters did not find my mediumship embarrassing. And they actually seem to think that it was cool.
My daughters all have this gift to some extent in different forms. They get messages, they have dreams about spirits, they intuitively know when to call. It's very nice. And since the four of us, me and my three daughters lived together in a house where this stuff was normal, intuitiveness, communication with ghosts and premonitions, these things were normal. Although they have this gift and are all officially adults now, extremely independent adults may I add, I am still the mom and we, my daughters and I, are still at a point in our relationship where they call me to ask if some place they are staying has a ghost or to ask me to ask Saint Michael to watch over them, which I love.
I have to be a good mother and encourage independence, encourage them to do these things on selves. But I have to admit that I love being asked to do them and I am happy to oblige when asked. Today I am going to talk about a few instances where I was supernaturally helpful to my daughters and I am going to talk about one instance where I was not helpful. My middle daughter was on a volunteer spring break trip in Utah, staying in an Airbnb, a very unattractive Airbnb from her description. I got a call from her late around 11 p.m.
Mom is there a ghost in this room and this is a call that I get often. Tell me if there is a ghost in this room. I closed my eyes, got into the zone, I waited for a vision or a message and I got a picture of a brown floor. Is the floor brown I asked? Yes, my daughter answered.
There is brown carpeting. I kept my eyes closed. I saw brown walls. Are the walls brown? Yes, this room is so weird, she said, sounding scared.
The walls are painted the same color as the carpet. It is like I am in a box. I kept my eyes closed and my vision continued. I saw the spirit of a young boy agitated moving around the room and trying to find an exit. I told my daughter to go to the window, which I also saw in my vision and opened it up.
There is a ghost. I knew it. She sounded even more scared. My motherly instincts kicked in and I decided not to give her any details about the ghost. I wanted her to be able to sleep.
I decided that I was just going to send the little boy ghost to the other side, through the phone and not tell my daughter much. I am taking care of it, I told her. Okay, I am going to the window, she said. I responded. Okay, great.
Now open the window and stand to the side. I heard the window opening. I focused on the little boy. I was able to see him in my mind's eye and communicate with him. I told him to go over to the window where the lady, my daughter, was standing.
He went. I was able to guide him to that portal and direct him through it. He went easily as he had been looking for the exit for who knows how long. And as always, I felt his relief as he crossed over. Okay, the room is clear.
I told my daughter. I told her to close the window and then seal the portal. Portal sealing is a skill my children all have from growing up with a medium for a mother. My daughter closed the window and sealed the portal. Thanks mom, she said.
Not asking for any details. She just had it taken care of by her mother and now she could sleep in peace. This same traveling daughter spent a great deal of time traveling around Europe with friends. And one night I got a call from her from a youth hostel and Florence. Mom, she said.
My friends and I think this room is haunted. They asked me to call you. Is it haunted? Can you fix it? I was pleased to be called into service like this.
And it was not too late in the evening for me because here in New York we were six hours behind. So I was fully awake and able to help them. Again, I closed my eyes. I got into the zone. I saw a light colored room with a lamp in the corner with the ghost of a teen aged boy standing next to it.
A teen aged boy with a friendly face. I communicated with him. He was not ready to cross over. He just wanted to be around people and actually wanted some recommendations of fun places to go in Florence. Okay, yes, there is a spirit there.
I said. And I heard shrieking. I was on speakerphone. It's nothing to be scared of. I said.
He's a young guy around your age. He's standing near the lamp in the corner. I heard gasps. How did she know there was a lamp in the corner? I went on.
He wants to know some cool places he should go to in Florence. The girls laughed. We can do that, they answered. So I told them to open the window to invite the young man to stand near it, to tell him some fun places to go, tell him politely. Not to come back to this room and make obvious hand waving motions toward the outside.
And say, goodbye, have fun. They needed to do this instead of me because I don't know fun places to go in Florence, Italy. I stayed on the phone while they did this, watching it in my mind's eye. When I watched that young man spirit wave goodbye to them and fly out the window, off to have fun haunting some hot nightlife spots in Florence. Maybe he was doing this in youth hostels all over Europe, fulfilling some lifelong dream that he didn't get to accomplish in his life, hanging out and asking girls for sightseeing recommendations.
He might not have even been a teenager when he died. He was just doing this ghostly thing at an age when he would have wanted to do it in real life. I don't know, that's a guess. But I hope he has fun and crosses over when he's ready. And here is the story of the time I was not helpful.
It was September. And this same daughter, the traveling daughter, was starting her senior year of college. She was an RA and had arrived a few days before the rest of the students and was given a choice of two rooms. She called me as my daughters and other family members due to ask if either of these rooms was haunted. She wasn't getting any haunted vibes.
She just wanted to make sure by asking me that the rooms were spiritually clear. She based timed me, something that had become the norm by that time in our relationship. Mom, I want to show you these two rooms. I have to pick one. She turned the camera around and showed me the first room.
It was plain, benign, no spirits, super naturally clean. And I told her all that. Okay, I said that room is fine. And here's the one I really love, she said, walking across the hall to the second room. And I could tell why she liked it.
It was bigger, it had more windows, it had high ceilings, it had more closets. And I could see that that room had a ghost. The paranormal energy in that room was strong. It was sort of swirling around. My daughter panned the camera around and I eventually saw her.
The spirit of a young woman standing near the wall. I couldn't communicate with her. She didn't seem ready to go. I'm not sure. But I knew that clearing that room of that ghost wouldn't be simple.
And definitely not over the phone. That ghost was confused, stuck, and not going to listen. As I experienced this energy and looked at that ghost, my daughter kept talking. I love it, don't you? I mean, I could take that other room, but this one is my favorite.
I'm so excited to move in here. It's not haunted or anything, right? So as I said, my kids are pretty sensitive to the other side. And paranormal energies. But this time, I think my daughter's excitement about the windows, all the closet space, and how much fun she was going to have in that room.
That excitement overshadowed any subtle supernatural hint she would have gotten if she wasn't so eager to take that room. My motherly instincts had a battle. Should I tell her about the non-communicative ghost in the corner? The ghost that I can't clear right now over the phone? Or should I honor my daughter's giddy-ness about moving into this big luxurious dorm room?
Well, since this section of the story is called when I was not helpful, you can guess which one of those two choices I picked. I did not tell her about the ghost. I said, although I seem to recall sounding unenthusiastic, I said, yes, that room is clear, no ghosts or anything. The camera wasn't on me when I said that, so my daughter did not pick up on any slight grimace I may have made while telling that outright lie. I sort of hoped that maybe the ghost would leave her.
I was wrong, but I knew I wasn't wrong. Anyway, I chose to honor her excitement over the room and not her concern over hauntings. And that, in hindsight, may have been the wrong choice. Because that room was haunted. My daughter started calling me soon after moving in, asking if I was sure that room wasn't haunted.
She was feeling like she was being watched all the time. There was a negative energy in there. I guess when she moved in and her excitement were off, her psychic abilities kicked back in and she felt that ghost in the room. It all came to a head one night when my daughter had a vivid, message-style vision dream. And here it is in her words.
I was asleep in my dorm room. And I had a dream that someone was banging on the dorm room door. But I didn't want to get up and open it. But the person wouldn't stop banging, so I went to open the door crack and as soon as I did, a girl named Mary shoved her face in and demanded over and over that I help her move out. She then grabbed me by the wrist and told me it was time to help her move her stuff and I had to literally rip myself away from her.
She had a person with her and I told that person to call campus safety, but they also grabbed me and I had to push the door closed and push them out of the way. I was so freaked out and then Mary then started putting her face in the crack of the door and making creepy noises, repeating, you have to help me move out, you have to help me move out now. And dream. Obviously, the girl in the dream, Mary, was the girl ghost I saw on the camera way back when my daughter was choosing a room. And I guess that ghost was finally ready to go and she had to go now.
My daughter called me, described that dream and I finally admitted that I actually had seen that ghost in the room through the phone camera that very first day. But I didn't say anything at the time because she was so excited about the room. Oops. Thanks a lot, mom. She said, what am I supposed to do now?
Well I knew that this had to be an in-person ritual sending up this spirit. This particular spirit was too angry, too desperate and too lost to respond to me over the phone. She was really stuck in that space and she needed my daughter to help her move out right now. I gave my daughter instructions for us, send up what to say, what to do and to include a friend in the ritual because this one was a two-man job. They called me the next day, my daughter and her friend saying that they had followed my directions.
My daughter's friend had had an extreme reaction to the ritual and had truly connected with and communicated with this spirit's guides. My daughter said her friend said they had definitely felt something change energetically. And as they described their experience to me, I could sense that the ghost girl had crossed over. So in the end, maybe it was the right choice to make. Maybe I was guided to help my daughter pick that room so that she could eventually help that girl's spirit cross over.
The results were positive ones, the spirit crossed over and that room is not haunted anymore, so future RAs can live there peacefully. I don't know how positive it was for my daughter to feel like she was being watched all the time to have to wade through negative energy every time she crossed her room or to have terrifying nightmares where she is being screamed at by an angry ghost. But it does make a great story that she can tell like parties. My kids still call me when they are in a new room to ask if there are any ghosts, if it's clear. But now they always add, for real mom, don't lie to me.
