Sixth Sense

Full transcript of the My True Ghost Stories episode “Sixth Sense.” Listen to this episode.

Hi, I'm Jennifer and this is My True Ghost Stories, where I share stories of my supernatural adventures as a spiritual medium, helping trapped spirits to cross over and more. Let's get started! Welcome to episode 12 of My True Ghost Stories. Today we will hear two stories of intuition, telepathy, and everyday use of the sixth sense. I have found throughout my life that sometimes things are corrected by the universe.

Issues are addressed for me and for others, not always, but by paying attention to my intuition. I see the corrections by the universe happening quite often. More often than you'd think. Here's a story about that. I was in a big park near my house with some friends and family and we had no food with us.

I probably should have eaten a bigger lunch beforehand or something, but here I was, weak with hunger, hanging out in the park, and I realized I had to go get something to eat. I wasn't going to last. I headed out to the street and I didn't tell anyone where I was going because I didn't want anyone placing any orders. I just had to get some calories in me. There were no delis or bodegas near the park entrance that we were at, but as I walked down onto the sidewalk, I spotted a pretzel vendor and they sell these big giant super salty soft pretzels.

And since it was the only food around, I figured that was what I was going to have to eat so that I could survive this outing. I said hello to the pretzel guy. I bought a pretzel, put some mustard on it, and I was scoffing it down when I saw this guy walking past me in the pretzel vendor and he was wearing a t-shirt and on that t-shirt was the first line of my favorite poem in the whole world. Now for some reason, I have decided never to curse on this podcast and that may change at some point. But for that reason, I'm going to edit this first line of the poem slightly.

The line is, they f you up, your mom and dad. My cool, funny grandmother actually mailed me a Xeroxed copy of this poem many years ago and I love it. It's so clever. And there's a link to it in the show notes. Anyway, with a mouthful pretzel, I pointed excitedly at his shirt and I exclaimed, they f you up, your mom and dad.

They f you up, your mom and dad. But I used the actual curse words though. I love that poem. And I thought we would have a discussion like he would stop and we would talk about this funny poem together. However, he smiled, nodded, said me too and kept walking.

And I was left standing there with that fading smile of someone who thought they were going to have a discussion. The pretzel man saw it all. I slowly looked over at him and he sort of grimaced and shrugged his shoulders. I was so embarrassed. Somehow, my enthusiasm and unbridled friendliness in this situation witnessed by a bystander, the pretzel man, it was too much for me to handle.

I headed back to my family and friends who were in the park chewing my pretzel and mumbling. Why did I do that? Why did I assume that guy would want to talk to me? He probably thinks I'm nuts. The pretzel guy probably thinks I'm nuts.

Maybe I am nuts. And I continued on with all sorts of fun self doubting thoughts like that. This feeling of embarrassment remained for the rest of the afternoon. And then for the next few weeks, it would pop into my head. Why did I even say that?

Why did I assume you wanted to discuss that poem with me? Who do I even think I am? Anyway, some sort of poetry expert exhausting stuff like that. And here is where the universe, my intuition or sixth sense, and the powers that be intervened to make something right. About a month later, I was at the gym opening my locker and I had a locker near the entrance to the gym, not in the locker room.

And I was overcome with a strong compulsion to stay there, to not enter the gym, to stay at my locker near the entrance. And as I did that lingering, the embarrassment about the T-shirt guy popped in. And this time, I was truly reliving it. I put my head in my hands and sort of leaned face first into the locker and the muttering began. I can't believe I just blurted that out.

What did I do that? But this time, I was interrupted. Oh, hi! I heard a voice say. I turned around.

It was the T-shirt guy. He said. I'm so glad to see you. I just joined this gym. Listen, I'm so sorry I couldn't talk that day.

I was late for an appointment and I was in a rush, but I really wanted to talk to you. So apparently, all that agonizing of mine had been unnecessary. And maybe he had been agonizing too? I did not admit to him the ridiculous amount of times I had relived that moment. We introduced ourselves and then we had the discussion about the poem.

I wish the pretzel man could have seen it. Now here is what I know happened here. I got the compulsion to stay near the entrance of the gym and begin reliving this moment of mine so intensely there, standing outside my locker. Was because this man had entered the building. I picked up on his vibe.

And I believe the universe had me linger there and relive the moment. So I could get closure on this situation which was causing me so much angst. And also to give the man in the T-shirt closure because he felt bad. And I know that because he apologized a second time after our poetry discussion. And this is an example of some use of the sixth sense listening to the message that I should linger by the entrance.

And a situation being resolved by the forces of the universe. It does happen if you listen to your intuition. And encouraging people to listen to their intuition is one of my main reasons for doing this podcast. Besides advocating for trapped spirits, one of the other reasons I want to share these stories of mine, like the one you're about to hear, is because I want to normalize messages from the universe and intuitive experiences for everyone. Now everyone accepts that humans normally have five senses.

They have the sense of sight, smell, hearing, taste, touch. Well I want to acknowledge the sixth sense. No, not the terrifying yet somehow uplifting movie starring Bruce Willis. No, not that. The sixth sense as in what we know as intuition or even telepathy.

The Merriam Webster Dictionary Calls Telepathy, the power of seeing or knowing about things that are not present to the senses. And that's not present to the five senses of course. And the Oxford Dictionary Calls intuition, a thing that one knows or considers likely from instinctive feeling rather than conscious reasoning. So this is this whole level of consciousness that I have observed that many people are afraid to admit to. Like nobody would be embarrassed to say, you know, I saw your neighbor Joe at the supermarket or I smell smoke.

But to confidently say, I knew you were about to call or I don't think we should walk down this street or even grandma's spirit visited me today. Like any of those things people seem afraid to say. And if they are going to say them, they preface it with, alright, this is going to sound crazy, but you know, I think my grandmother's spirit visited me today. You would never say, this is going to sound crazy, but I saw your neighbor Joe at the supermarket today. But it seems that if people have a visitation dream or some other form of contact from the other side or from the living through telepathy, they often hesitate to tell people about it.

Wouldn't it be great to just announce freely that you were contacted by a departed loved one or that someone a thousand miles away sent you a message in a dream. The same way you would announce that you ran into a long-lost friend at the airport or something. And this story is an example of this type of freely supernatural interaction, something that happened to me just this week as I was preparing this story. And here it is. Recently, I went with my dad to see a performance in Manhattan by the Isadora Duncan Dance Company.

He was a fundraiser, and my dad is a sometimes dance critic, and he was delivering the opening remarks. This performance was amazing, and as a retired dancer watching this, it spurred all sorts of nostalgia and longing for my previous life as a young performer. And I got to talk to some of the dancers and the director after the show. I left there wishing I was 22 years old again for the dancing, not for the angst, and wishing that I could audition for that company. Well, I'm sure I could audition, but they would most likely just thank me and send me on my way.

That night, after seeing this performance, I had a dream. In the dream, my doorbell rang, and when I answered it, it was the director of the Isadora Duncan Dance Company. This was not a visitation dream. This was a Jennifer dream. And here's the conversation that she and I had in the dream.

She said, I couldn't help but notice how gracefully you were sitting in the audience this evening. Won't you please join our company? Oh, I don't know. I responded. I don't know if I have the time.

I'm very busy. And she said, please, please join us. We need dancers like you. I protested some more, expressed doubt, but eventually, in this dream, I agreed to join the Isadora Duncan Dance Company. I mean, the woman had come all the way to my house to ring my doorbell because she had noticed my graceful sitting.

I had to accept. And she rejoiced in my acceptance, and she handed me a big bouquet of flowers, which I guess she had been hiding behind her back or something. And that was the end of the dream. Here's the intuitive part. I have a friend, Victoria Libertori.

Her website is intuitiveanimal.org and link is in the show notes. And Victoria is an intuitive and a really big part of my development as a medium. She does intuitive readings, astrology, rakey, and more, and she's totally awesome. She has helped me so much. Anyway, I woke up from my dance company dream in the morning, chuggling at that dream and how cute it was.

And I had set my alarm on my phone. I don't usually check my phone first thing in the morning, but I was turning off the alarm and I saw a text from Victoria. It said, I had a dream last night that you were in a dance competition and you won and they gave you a big bouquet of flowers. And I texted her back that I had gone to see this dance company and I had just woken up from a dream where the director had begged me to join the company and given me a big bouquet of flowers. Oh, that makes sense, was her response.

Because to us, it really did. And it was uplifting, well for me at least, especially because I won the dance competition in Victoria's dream. So it's cool to talk to people that consider this normal. In a future episode, I will do a whole show about me and Victoria and our mystical adventures. And this dream that she and I had, this is called a mutual dream, which there is actually some scientific studies being done on.

I found out that mutual dreams tend to occur in close relationships, be very similar in content and occur when related dreamers are separated. Says Patrick McNamara Department of Neurology at the Boston University School of Medicine. And the link to this article is in the show notes. And although there is no scientific evidence as of yet, there is plenty of anecdotal evidence. I'm also going to do a whole show about mutual dreamy because there are so many examples of this just from me, my family and friends.

It's so fascinating and apparently really common. But back to intuition and telepathy. Some people have more intuition than others, like some people have a better sense of smell than others, which is something Victoria told me when I first started this venture as a medium. I personally have a very poor sense of smell. I will be in some situation and people are like gagging and holding their nose and running for the exits.

And I'll just be standing there, you know, sniffing, saying, I don't smell anything. And the upside of this is that I save a lot of money on cat litter. I do have a super strong sense of hearing though. So I'll be in another situation and I'll be hunched over holding my ears saying, oh my god, don't you hear that? That squeaking sound.

It's driving me crazy, don't you hear that? And people will be standing there squinting, saying, I don't hear anything. I mean, while it's like some machinery two or three blocks away, that's making some squeaking noise. And like only I can hear it. But you know, I do live in New York City.

So earplugs and white noise are a big part of my life. I don't want to move to the country where there's no people. So you know, you take the good with the bad. Anyway, my message here is that I want us to accept messages from the universe. I want us to rejoice in visits that we get from our loved ones that have passed on.

Accept the messages that we get from them in dreams in our feelings and our thoughts. And wouldn't it be cool if we get comfortable like when Victoria texted me about her dream? If we could get comfortable with just telling people, like telling a friend, I had a dream that you planted marigold in your garden. You know, it might turn out that this person did plant marigolds in their garden. Or they were thinking about planting marigolds in their garden.

Or something else to do with marigolds that they need to think about. Me personally, after accepting that this was a calling of mine and not being so freaked out by it, I started with the people that I knew would be receptive to this type of message. And then after I got used to doing that and getting some positive feedback, then I worked up to telling some doubters. And now I tell many doubters, not all, but ones who I know will at least be polite. And my hope is that they will start trusting their own intuition and maybe tell each other when they get messages.

If you want to try this, I just want to say that if you get a message for any big actions or plans like quitting your job or you know, if he wants, like, the universe is telling me to call my ex. I strongly suggest that you run it by someone and get another opinion before you take any action on that kind of thing. But what I really want to emphasize here is that a goal of this podcast is to encourage listeners to think of intuition, telepathy and communication from the other side as normal parts of life. And some of us have a stronger sixth sense than others, but most of us have it. And I think we should share it with one another.

And if you would like to practice sharing your sixth sense experiences with someone, tell me, email me about your visitation dream or message from the other side or your intuitive experience with the living. I look forward to hearing from you. And that's all for today. Thank you for listening to today's episode.
